The scenes honor Roosevelt's bravery on July 1, 1898. Roosevelt rode back and forth in support of his infantry at the forefront of the advance up San Juan Hill. Height: 10.5" from base to top of knob, Base: 6" square. This beautiful and historic coffee grinder is in excellent condition. The circular, domed, ornately embossed metal panels at the top are beautiful.
One slides open nicely so you can pour in the beans. The rim bears the inscription, "THE BRONSON-WALTON CO CLEVELAND O". The gracefully curved crank turns easily and retains its original wooden knob and cotter pin. The tin drawer slides in and out smoothly. It still has its porcelain knob and almost all its original blue paint, interestingly, the top edge of the front panel of the drawer was folded on an angle at the factory.
This quirky anomaly only serves to give this mill personality. The chromolithograph panels show age-appropriate wear with some small dings (please see photos) and have a consistent patina that gives the mill an attractive softness. The wood portions are solid, crack-free, and show appropriate wear. Overall, this is a gorgeous and very rare piece of Americana that anyone can display with pride. This coffee mill will be carefully packed and double-boxed to arrive safely at your destination.
