Antique Michael Friederich & Sohn Scarce Delftware Coffee Grinder

An unusual Michael Friederich & Sohn coffee grinder with delftware scenes of Dutch countryside on tin applied to the sides of the box. We have yet to find another example of this grinder. The three sides all have the same scene while the front has two scenes, one on the grinds drawer and another above.

Elegant 3/4 turned pillars at each corner with dovetail construction to the box and drawer. This appears to be an early steel adjustable grinding mechanism (vs cast iron) held by a plated metal bowl which has some wear loss to the original finish. Friederich & Sohn engraved on crank arm.

The arm is also engraved with "Patent" but no date is visible. 10 1/4 inches base to top of crank handle, box is 4 3/4 inches high by 6 1/2 inches square on the top plate with the base slightly smaller at 5 3/4 inches square.

Nice patina to the wood. Weight is 2 lb 8 oz. A wonderful and unusual addition to any collection or simply as a single elegant example of a hand-crank grinder.
