Vintage Hand Crank COFFEE GRINDER Copper Wooden Drawer Caffe Brass Plaque Italy
VINTAGE ITALIAN HAND-CRANK COFFEE GRINDER. This listing features a manual Italian fruitwood coffee bean grinder, which dates back to the 1940s. It's in beautiful condition and still operates smoothly but needs a good cleaning. It would be cute with a little greenery spilling out of the drawer if you plan to use it for decorative display only. I'd leave it as is because the patina and overall appearance of this grinder is Bellissimo!
It measures 12 inches tall by 7 inches in diameter at the base and the brass and wooden nob handle is 5 inches long. This is a solid and weighty machine at 3 pounds, 4.1 ounces.
Three brass rods secure the upper and lower wooden sections of this grinder. There is a charming brass Italian'Caffè' title plate on the front held in place by tiny brass nails.
Below it is a drawer with a decorative copper plate on its face, held in place by tiny copper nails and a copper knob. As the coffee is ground, it falls into this small drawer, which holds approximately 1/3 cup (16 teaspoons) of ground beans. I arrived at this sum substituting whole peppercorns ground elsewhere. The drawer has an old repair inside where the lower bit of wood is splintered and tacked down with a copper tack. The only other flaw I can find (that's not cleanable patina) is a small crack on the underside of the exterior burnished copper part.
It doesn't seem to affect the grinder's functionality but please inspect all of the photos to see exactly what you will receive. I have discounted the price of this beauty with these issues in mind. Check out other uncommon items from three generations of our family as we downsize.
